This instructional video is a fast-pace introduction to a simple kitchen recipe. Designed to be accessible to beginners while also being unique enough to interest veteran home-chefs, this video is an example of instruction under strict time limits. Because of the time limit, the shots and content were pruned to the bare minimum without sacrificing any necessary information so that viewers will still be able to successfully complete the recipe.
Filmed on an iPhone 7s, edited in Camtasia, distributed through YouTube
One week to develop a one minute instructional video.
This video had to be turned around quickly which limited the timing of the filming as well as the complexity of the shots. To keep engagement and interest high, the video uses quick cuts and peppy music.
After the topic was selected, the initial script and shot list was completed over a couple of days. Filming and editing were completed over the following two days. The film was reviewed by team members for a quality and comprehension check before submission.
Good audio and lighting are so important. As there was no budget for this video, the audio was recorded using the iPhone during filming and the lighting system was created using household lights. Had I more time to complete this project, I would have arranged to borrow a microphone and lighting kit for the filming process. However, even on a non-existent budget, quality instruction can be turned around quickly and effectively.
